Would-be street artist detained without bail for supposed bomb threat

Vandalog - A Street Art Blog 22 May 2012, 5:21 pm CEST

Takeshi Miyakawa tried to hang a series of lit plastic bags, like the one shown above, around Greenpoint, Brooklyn recently. Now he is being held without bail; essentially because these bags were perceived to be a bomb threat. A judge had determined that he should be detained for 30 days for a mental heath evaluation. Has Jillian Steinhauer wrote at Hyperallergic, “Sure, hanging a plastic bag with wires coming out of it in a city as terrorism-obsessed as ours may not be the best idea — but no bail and a mental health evaluation? Really?” Hyperallergic has more on the ridiculous, scary and unfortunate story.

Jermaine Rogers Primus Huntington Poster On Sale Details

INSIDE THE ROCK POSTER FRAME BLOG 22 May 2012, 4:04 pm CEST

Jermaine was commissioned by the legendary band Primus to create a print for their recent appearance in New York. Coordinated by the amazing artist (and close associate of the band) Zoltron, Jermaine was given complete creative control by the band. What resulted was a tribute to two very influential artists whom, sadly, we tragically just lost. Here's what Jermaine had to say: 'So recently, 2 people who were artistically very influential to how i think and what i 'see', passed away from this physical plane... I will never forget, after reading one of my favorite books for the 10,000th time, lying in my bed at night as a kid and closing my eyes tight and hoping that, when i opened them, there'd be a jungle growing in my room. I also will never remember the first time i flipped on the radio and heard a guy whose name was MCA...and he said he had a license to kill. 2 champions of 'freedom'...for the inner world and the outer world. Eternal energy on the march! . I hope you all enjoy how I expressed myself.' This print measures approx. 24x18 inches and is part of a limited regular edition of only 200 signed and numbered prints on white gallery stock: 50 of the prints went to the band and their families, and 100 were available at the show, where they promptly sold out. We have 50 of the regular edition, a handful of which will be available. First come, first served. 50.00 - PRIMUS (Huntington, NY) FOIL VARIANT - The Primus print is available on holographic sparkle foil stock, in an extremely limited edition of only 40 signed and numbered prints. NOTE - ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS WILL BE RELEASED FOR SALE ON WED., MAY 23RD AT 3:00 PM EASTERN (12 NOON PACIFIC) at JermaineRogers.com First come, first served. There will also be several surprise items listed as well.

7225207958_3c340845a2_b

Last Friday evening at FFDG marked the opening of Dave Kinsey's first solo show in San Francisco in over a decade (previewed). This longtime Los Angeles artist recently moved away from the city, to a much quieter town near the Sequoia National Forrest and has created a body of work that has become more abstract, but still incorporates his recognizable figurative characters. Lost For Words features a series of textured mixed media works on surfaces that range from canvas pieces with slightly crooked frames (which plays with the linear characteristics of the painting), to works on craft paper that adorn the gallery ceiling.
