Stop the Hate

Vandalog 30 Jul 2010, 5:50 pm CEST

“July 28, 2010: Protesters in Phoenix, Arizona scaled a downtown crane to display their message, “Stop hate, no 287g, no 1070,” linking the local racial profiling law with the federal policy of criminalization. The banner was unfurled at approximately 6:00pm and remained on display for over an hour. The climbers released a statement that read, “Stopping the hate means not just stopping SB 1070 and Sheriff Arpaio in Arizona but stopping all the Arpaios that the President’s ice access program is creating all across the country.”” Via anitasarkeesian

David Choe — Munko Vinyl

Hookedblog 30 Jul 2010, 1:14 pm CEST

We don't usually feature collectable toys on the Hookedblog site but we kinda like these from David Choe.
Upper Playground has teamed up with Japan’s Good Smile Company to become the official distributor for David Choe’s “Munko” Vinyl Figures. The toys were initially seen as simple sketches on David's blog, and now following the premiere of the physical Munko toys at San Diego Comic Con in Giant Robot's booth, Upper Playground is the exclusive wholesaler and distributor for the line of figures. The figures are available in a set of all 12 toys and individually by blind-box.

Os Gemeos

Os Gemeos

Last night, the PRISM gallery on the Sunset Strip hosted a group exhibition “Come As You Are” in conjunction with New Image Art and RVCA. Featuring an eclectic collection of artists across all genres, the show included Susanne Melanie Berry, Kelsey Brookes (featured), Richard Colman (interviewed), Dennis Hopper, Ryan McGinness, Cleon Peterson, Clare Rojas, Craig Stecyk, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton and a video by Cheryl Dunn of Dash Snow as well as the three artists below.

In particular, we liked the pieces by Os Gemeos (priced at $50K+ each), who were still in town after participating in the Viva La Revolucion exhibition. We also were surprised by the the size and detail of the painting from the Clayton Brothers (featured). But, the most interesting development of all were some new abstract works from Clare Rojas, which were completely unexpected.

The Broken Casket: Faro’s first zine

Vandalog 30 Jul 2010, 7:51 am CEST

New York’s Faro has just put out his first zine. It’s a 24 page overview of Faro’s drawings and graffiti in black and white. Faro is one of New York’s up and coming graffiti/street artists, so who knows, maybe this zine will be a collectible one day like Neckface’s book Satan’s Bride. But more importantly, it looks like it’s full of fun content and plenty of Faro’s trademark mummies. I may get one just to rip it apart so that I can stick individual pages to the walls of my room.

Here’s some of what’s inside:

But where can you find The Broken Casket? Just get in touch with Faro on flickr to get your copy.
